MELOT (Modular Expandable Light Object Tester) is a modular system for the parallel evaluation of luminous objects in the visible area of the light. Colour and luminosity are evaluated independently, according to user-specific instructions. In contrast to the current colour sensors, the MELOT does not use a reference light source, but collects the light which is emitted by the test product.
The system is designed for the fast and parallel test of objects. It is divided into a central processing unit (CPU) and the peripheral modules connected to it. Only one test object is attributed to each peripheral module.
The smallest configuration allows to test between one and 31 objects in parallel with one CPU module. On a single CPU, up to 100 products can be defined. One product can consist of up to 31 different peripheral modules which can in turn be connected into 15 different configurations for a test. These configurations can e. g. be used for a test of duo- and full-colour LEDs. The testing times for one configuration amount to approximately 0.3 s – under consideration of the independent evaluation of colour and luminosity.
With more than 31 LEDs, up to 961 objects can be tested in parallel with the help of further CPUs (31 max. on one host interface by RS485 interface)
The system provides different interfaces which are optimised to be employed in automated manufacturing processes, e. g. before the placement of component parts or during the final quality control within in-circuit testers. It can be operated by a serial interface but can also work via digital I/Os as a simple positive negative identification. Moreover, the system can be operated via both interfaces simultaneously. The connection between the test data processor and the module is compatible with the system VE0006. Applied as a positive/negative identification, the module works with product-specific parameters that the user constitutes via a software tool included in our delivery extent. All parameters are remanently stored on the system. The software tool also offers an extended memory functionality, allowing to compile back ups, to transfer parameters detected in other systems to new systems as well as a „one-click-repair“ functionality for the quick recovery of damaged systems.
The coupling of the light is effected by plastic light conductors. The use of light conductors for the coupling to the products to be tested permits a spacial separation of the module and the test area. The result is a high flexibility. In many cases, this permits a belated changeover or upgrading of already existing installations.
Our delivery extent includes the software tool for the parameterisation and a detailed description of the serial interface. In this description all the commands are mentioned and described by which the pure sensor data can be collected and evaluated with the own software. Often this is necessary for higher requirements for the pursuing of products.
